Pia Gynell-Jorgensen
Pia Gynell-Jorgensen is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Tarntanya/Adelaide, working primarily in oil on board and canvas to create intricate, emotionally charged abstractions. With a background in both fine art and illustration, her practice moves fluidly between structured design and intuitive mark-making, resulting in richly layered paintings that reflect a deep engagement with memory, vulnerability, and the unconscious. Her work has been exhibited widely across Australia, including solo and group shows and she has been a finalist in numerous national art prizes such as the Unley Art Prize and the RSASA Abstract Art Prize. Informed by both personal experience and formal experimentation, Gynell-Jorgensen’s paintings emerge through a slow, tactile process—often balancing vivid colour fields with delicate surface detail—transforming raw emotional states into visual spaces that are both expansive and intimate.
