Katie Sandison

Katie Sandison is a South Australian artist whose vibrant watercolour paintings celebrate the unique flora and fauna of Australia. Based in Mitcham, Katie's work is characterised by bold compositions, rich metallic accents, and a distinctive colour palette that brings attention to endangered and vulnerable species.

Katie's artistic journey began at the age of 16 when she studied at the North Adelaide School of Art. She later earned a Bachelor of Visual Art and a Bachelor of Education, specialising in Secondary Visual Art and Design. After over 22 years of teaching, she transitioned to full-time art practice, establishing Katie Sandison Fine Art and Kids Art Adelaide, an art school for children. She now offers workshops for both adults and children, collaborating with libraries, community centres, and councils.

Her paintings often depict native birds and plants, rendered in intricate detail and set against luminous backgrounds. Katie's work has been featured in exhibitions across Australia and internationally, and her designs have been licensed for use on eco-friendly products like organic cotton tea towels and tote bags. She has also been a finalist in several art prizes, including the Petite Pieces Art Prize and the Heysen Landscape Prize

Katie's studio is located at The Adelaide Remakery, where she continues to create and teach, fostering a deeper connection between her community and the natural world through art.
